Europe’s AI Infrastructure Gap Widens Amid U.S. and Asian Dominance
Europe risks becoming a secondary player in the AI-driven economy as it falls behind the U.S. and Asia in critical infrastructure sectors. A new Allianz report highlights the continent's growing dependence on foreign cloud providers, semiconductors, and data centers—key pillars of the AI revolution.
American firms now control 80% of Europe's cloud compute market, 60% of enterprise software revenue, and nearly half of upcoming data center projects. Meanwhile, U.S. AI infrastructure imports have tripled since 2023 compared to Europe's 40% growth, revealing stark disparities in scaling capacity.
The report warns this imbalance threatens Europe's economic sovereignty, potentially relegating the region to consumer rather than producer status in AI technologies. Asian manufacturers further compound the challenge by dominating hardware production.
